Know What to Expect From Your First Gynecologist Appointment

If you have never been your Bucks County gynecologist before, it’s completely understandable if you feel nervous about your impending appointment. However, women’s health checkups are necessary to identify and prevent possible issues and to keep you in the best health possible. They are also completely normal. Millions of women go through routine checkups on a weekly basis, and while every one of them was in the same situation as you once, visits to the OBGYN are now are normal and comfortable as a trip to the dentist.

When to Visit Your Gynecologist

Ideally, you should schedule your first OB/GYN appointment when you are 21 years of age. However, it doesn’t hurt to schedule your first visit before that if you are sexually active at a young age. You should also schedule a visit with your gynecologist if you need a routine pap smear, are pregnant or need relief from menopause symptoms. At Doylestown Women’s Health Center, our doctors and team are prepared to make your visit as comfortable as possible, regardless of your reason for visiting us in the first place.

That said, if you have never visited our women health center, you may be curious as to what to expect. Below is an overview of what you can expect from your first visit to our office.

Are You Ready for Your First Visit?

If you’re not sure whether or not you should schedule a visit with our OB/GYN, there are a few questions you can ask yourself to be sure. Those are as follows:

• Are you contemplating sexual activity?
• Are you 18 years of age?
• Do you have questions regarding your menstrual cycle?
• Are you interested in receiving the Gardasil vaccine?

If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you may be ready to visit your Bucks County gynecologist.

What to Expect From Your First Visit

Once in our office, one of our associates will hand you a questionnaire. It is important that you answer all of the questions honestly so you can be sure to receive proper treatment. The questions in the questionnaire are in regard to your health, sexual activities and menstrual cycle.

Beyond the initial questionnaire, your visit may look different depending on your age and the answers you provide. For instance, if you are under 26, the clinic may offer you HPV vaccination and counseling. Our team may also recommend the following tests:

• PAP Test
• Pelvic Exam
• Breast Exam
• Physical Exam

Our team may also provide advice regarding your general health and lifestyle, birth control, menstrual history, past pregnancies, family medical history, medical needs, current medications, and other relevant factors. We are also prepared to answer any questions or address any concerns you have regarding your health.

Our Doylestown office is committed to helping you maximize your insurance benefits. Doylestown Women’s Health Center participates with most major insurance companies. We update our providers frequently, so in the event you don’t see your insurance provider listed, please contact us at (215) 340-2229 to confirm participation and in-network status.

It is the patient’s responsibility to contact their insurance company to determine if we are contracted providers and verify your eligibility, benefits, deductible limits and copays. Should you have any questions or require assistance, please contact our Billing Department at (215) 340-2229 Ext. 205.

Please present all your current insurance cards at the time of your visit. Should your insurance provider change, please notify our Doylestown office immediately. It is important that we have the most current information so that claims can be filed on a timely basis. Incorrect information may result in an out-of-pocket charge to you.

Medicare / Medicare Advantage Patients

Medicare provides preventative services to patients 65 and older to help keep you healthy. These services include screenings, tests and check-ups for certain illnesses. For women, these services include: the Pap Smear (every two years), Pelvic Exam (every two years), a clinical breast exam (every two years) and a mammogram (yearly).

In most cases, Medicare will pay for the majority of your healthcare bill, but not all of it. When done under the Medicare timelines allowed, Pap Smears and breast exams will have no out of pocket costs. However, in an effort to provide good medical care, there may be instances where more frequent exams or testing may be required at our Bucks County OB/GYN. In these cases, the tests or exams may not be covered by Medicare. If this occurs, you will be responsible for some or all of the costs.

Co-Pay Policy For Those With Insurance

Doylestown Women’s Health Center will bill your insurance provider for each visit, however, your co-pay and/or deductible is due at the time of service. The amount that you owe depends on the specific insurance plan under which you are contracted and the amount of services you have used/paid for during any given year. Generally, you can find co-pay information listed on the front of your insurance card. However, should you have any questions, you should call your insurance provider to determine what and/or how much will be due at the time of your Bucks County OB/GYN visit.

Pre-Payment Of Delivery And Procedure Fees

Prior to any surgery or obstetrical care, we will contact your insurance company to verify benefits. Please remember that the insurance company will only estimate the amount that you owe, and that any verification is not a guarantee of payment.

Generally, in the case of obstetrical care, payments for any deductibles or copayments will be due by the 25th week of pregnancy. However, for those patients who do not wish to pay one sum, we do offer a monthly payment plan. Any payments due under the monthly payment plan must be paid in full by the 35th week of pregnancy.

In the case of surgical care, payments for any deductibles or copayments will be due two business days prior to surgery.

Self-Pay Patients

For patients who may not carry insurance, payment will be due at the time service is rendered. Please call Kristina at (215) 340-2229 ext. 120 to obtain self-pay rates for our Doylestown, PA office.

Payment Method

For your copayments or deductibles and for those who prefer to pay out-of-pocket, we accept cash, checks, debit cards and credit cards.
